Salty Dog FAQ

  • We are located inside the beautiful Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park, 8737 US-19, Port Richey, FL.

Once you have entered the park, continue to the end of the main drive and you will see our tiki hut & trailer to your left.

Use the restroom in the elevated building and continue down the boardwalk.

We’re waiting for you down at the launch.

  • We offer dry bag & seat cushion rentals for people who want a little extra comfort.

We also sell sunscreen & bug repellant wipes.

And of course, we have Salty Dog MERCH!

We offer adult and youth tees as well as Salty Dog stickers.

You can even buy Salty gear online ahead of your visit (or after!).

You are welcome to bring your own food and drink as well.

  • Yes. We are a “single point” launch and return operation which means you do not have to ride on a bus or a van to return to your vehicle.

Folks who own their own kayaks are also welcome to launch from the same area and there is no charge.

It is about 150 yards from the parking lot to the launch area.

  • Every kayak or canoe rental includes life jackets and paddles.

Life jackets are required when you are on the water. You are welcome to bring your own as well.

Parking is not included in the price of your rental.

  • Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park is now cashless. Please pay online the day you visit by clicking here.

    It costs $2/pedestrian and $4/vehicle.

If you have a Florida State Parks pass, please display it on your dashboard.

  • Absolutely! We love families!

At Salty Dog Kayak Rentals we are here to make life easier and more fun. By booking online, you will save time once you get to the park.

Our kayaks and paddles and life jackets are all located right by the boat launch and a Salty Dog Crew Member will help you get outfitted and will put your boat on the launch for you.

Our tandem kayaks feature two bonus mini seats perfect for small kiddos and our canoes feature three seats including a middle seat where a non-paddler could sit.

If there is anything else we can do to help, just ask! We know family time on the water is the best!

  • Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen! The Florida sun can never be underestimated, even on a cloudy day.

We like to wear rash guards or long sleeve tee shirts for extra sun protection.

Bathing suits are highly recommended since “sit-on-top” kayaks are known to get your seat wet.

While there is no swimming inside of the park, you are welcome to paddle out to the beach at Durney Key.

  • There is no swimming inside Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park.

The closest place to take a dip is a mile offshore at Durney Key.

We recommend only experienced padders make the journey to Durney Key because you will have to paddle through open water and a boat channel to get there.

  • You do not have to book online but it will make your check-in process faster and it will ensure that we have your kayaks and/or canoes ready and waiting for you.

We offer a completely paperless booking process and everything that you need to do, including payment and waivers, is done online so the only thing you’ll need to do once you get here is to have fun.

The cost is the same whether you book online or in person.

  • Absolutely! Bring your pup (or even your cat!) out on the water with you.

The park does require that dogs are on a leash while inside the park and we do ask that you clean up after your dog.

  • That is totally up to you! We will go over a map of the area before we launch you. That map (and other information) is available on the Our Location page. There is also a great free app called MapMyWalk (it has a kayak setting) that lets you create a digital bread crumb trail of where you have paddled. Many of our customers find this super helpful when making their way back to the launch!

  • Nope, our kayaks must remain on-site at Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park. You cannot transport them in a vehicle elsewhere.
